Marital and Family Therapy PsyD Program

CHOOSE YOUR FOCUS IN A FAST-GROWING FIELD

The COAMFTE-accredited Marital and Family Therapy (MFT) PsyD program offered at the Irvine, Los Angeles, Sacramento and San Diego campuses of Alliant International University provides the advanced training to pursue a career as a professional marriage and family therapist.

INTERNATIONAL AND INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED

Marriage and Family Therapy is recognized by the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH) as a core mental health discipline and is one of the fastest- growing disciplines in the field of mental health. The Couple and Family Therapy program at Alliant attracts students from around the world and are dedicated to train students to work with diverse populations.

REAL-WORLD TRAINING WITH DIVERSE POPULATIONS

To prepare for clinical practice, students receive intensive theoretical and practical skill-based training. Students gain real-world experience with a diverse clientele in Community-based practicum and internship sites, under the oversight of supervisors who meet rigorous AAMFT professional standards.

The doctoral program requires continuous active practice of marital and family therapy, including a doctoral internship of 1500 hours.

CUTTING-EDGE SPECIALTIES AND A STUDY-ABROAD OPTION

As a student in the MFT PsyD program, you will have an opportunity to specialize in one of three fields of growing national and international interest and significance:

In addition, you can opt to study abroad in Mexico for up to the first three semesters in the program.

LICENSURE

With a master’s degree in marital and family therapy, you are eligible for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) in California upon completion of post-degree intern hours and passing the licensure exam.

The Couple and Family Therapy programs at Alliant International University are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT):

The MFT master’s program at Alliant is one of only four accredited masters programs in California. The PsyD program is the only accredited MFT doctoral program in California and was the first accredited MFT PsyD program in the country.
